Geography of the Diocese
The Diocese of Victoria is comprised of the counties of Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca, Matagorda, Victoria, Wharton, Colorado and a portion of Fayette county west of the Colorado River.
The Archdiocese of San Antonio contributed all of the parishes of the El Campo, Schulenburg and Victoria deaneries to make up the Diocese of Victoria. The former Hallettsville deanery is included in the diocese with the exception of St. James Parish, Gonzales; Sacred Heart Mission, Gonzales; and St. Patrick Mission, Waelder.
The Galveston-Houston Diocese gave the following parishes and missions to Victoria: Holy Cross Parish, Bay City and its mission, Sacred Heart, Wadsworth; Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Bay City; Holy Cross Parish, East Bernard; St. John the Baptist Parish, Hungerford; Holy Family Parish, Wharton and its mission St. Joseph, Boling; and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Wharton.
The Corpus Christi Diocese added Immaculate Conception Parish, Goliad, and the missions of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Berclair; Our Lady of Guadalupe, Charco; Our Lady of Assumption, Fannin (all three no longer open); and the old Franciscan Presidio La Bahia, Our Lady of Loreto, Goliad.
In December of 1989 the following parishes entered our diocese from the Diocese of Austin: Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish and Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Eagle Lake; Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, Frelsburg; and St. Roch Parish, Mentz. On March 1, 1995, Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Our Lady of Guadalupe were joined and merged. The parish was named The Parish of the Nativity.
There are six deaneries in the Diocese of Victoria: Cuero, Edna, El Campo, Hallettsville, Schulenburg and Victoria.
Founding of the Diocese of Victoria
The Diocese of Victoria was established on May 29, 1982, with the Most Rev. Charles V. Grahmann being installed as the first bishop of the newly created diocese.
All personnel moved into the current chancery building on August 15, 1985. The building, located at 1505 East Mesquite Lane, was dedicated on September 8, 1985.

Parish of the Nativity
Early Beginning: Bishop Odin wrote in 1861, "the fact that the Catholics, live in scattered settelments, the Mexican portion on ranches or in small villages, cause me to remind you that it is important that all should be visited. This direction by Bishop Odin, gave evidence of Catholics being served by missionaries as early as 1861.
First Church ;Sacred Heart of Jesus founded around 1881-1890's was destroyed in the storm of 1900. The Second Church; Our Lady of Perpetual Help was built in the Northeast part of town in 1913 built from the donation to the Catholic Extension Society with the request that it be used to build a chapel in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary as Our Lady of Perpetual Help causing the name change from Sacred Heart of Jesus to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Where parish records were kept since January 1947. The Church was blessed and dedicated by the Most Reverend Louis J. Reicher, first bishop of the Austin Diocese, on June 26, 1949. Rev. A.W. Didner, became Pastor in1956 until his death on January 25, 1966.
Our Lady of Guadalupe became a reality to serve the spiritual needs of the Spanish speaking residents in 1949. The building was built from donations of a Catholic Boys School in the East. The Basilian priest from Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Wharton Texas, continued to serve the parish. Our Lady of Guadalupe became a mission of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in 1963,
Rev. A.W. Didner was appointed pastor for both churches.
In December of 1989 our parish entered the diocese from the Diocese of Austin: Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Our Lady of Guadalupe , Eagle Lake.

In 2006 was when Rev. Robert F Guerra was appointed and joined us and became the Pastor of The Parish of the Nativity.
In 2024, Rev. Peter Oscar Kofi Amo was appointed to and joined us and became the Pastor of The Parish of the Nativity.
